The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, UW-La Crosse, Wisconsin-La Crosse, or UW-L, is a public university located in La Crosse, which is a city located in the US state of Wisconsin, serving as the county seat of La Crosse county, with a population estimated at a number of approximately 51 900 inhabitants, during the 2009 census.
The university was established in 1909 and first started as the La Crosse State Normal School, adopting its current name in 1964, when it became part of the Wisconsin State University System.

UW-La Crosse's athletic teams are known as the Eagles and they compete in NCAA Division III. Their distinctive colors are maroon and gray and their mascot is named Colbert the Eagle.
